Naming your business "My Happy Place" may seem presumptuous, bold - even risky.
However, if you are Cherie Link - it is simply the truth.
Mrs. Link is the rare person that simultaneously lights up every room she walks into AND instantly infuses you with love and kindness from her very presence.
It is my pleasure and honor to provide you a peek behind the scenes of Cherie's wonderful, giving life.
Q: Tell us where you grew up, a bit about your upbringing and what you were like as a child?
A: I grew up in a small town in Western WI named Centuria (near St. Croix Falls and Balsam Lake). I am the middle of 3 girls and watched my parents start Indianhead Glass when I was in elementary school.
Having a family business based in our home taught me a lot about the commitment it takes to run a business and how everyone in our family played a role in it.
I always enjoyed being outside and took on a lot of the outdoor responsibilities (including mowing 3 acres and cutting and chopping wood as our primary heat source) to allow my Dad time for working.
I am a textbook middle child who is very easygoing, avoids conflict, fiercely independent, and holds a strong value of relationships
Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: An Astronaut, but then I realized I needed to love math, something that would never happen!
Q: What are the highlights of your journey into adulthood – pivotal moments, important lessons, discoveries about yourself, the world and others?
A: My Mom always taught us to treat others as we wanted to be treated, and I have always strived to do so.
I went to elementary school with a classmate that was a foster child and her home was not a safe environment; I vividly recall thinking “I could do a better job” when I was in third grade, and the seed was planted.
My husband, Brett, and our 2 biological children embarked on an incredible journey to be a foster family, which lasted 8 years; we had over 20 children in our home and each was such a blessing.
Also, I have always had a love for adventure and had a wonderful and rewarding career in travel (my life B.C. - before children). I experienced many amazing places, met great people, and created lots of memories
Q: Do you have any morning/evening rituals that you practice regularly – and why?
A: I enjoy working out in the mornings, typically yoga, Pilates, the treadmill, or walking thru our picturesque neighborhood trails.
Morning exercise gets my body and mind working together and sets the tone for a productive day
Q: What is your current calling and how are you aligning with it?
A: My husband, Brett, and I had an opportunity to purchase a building in Somerset 5 years ago and did so with the intention of expanding his then decorative concrete business.
There were some unexpected challenges with the building that required a complete tear down and rebuild of the original structure, allowing us to create a larger space that was too large for our original plan.
We spent a weekend looking at other opportunities, prayed about it, and had an entirely different business model within a few days for My Happy Place Boutique.
A chance meeting with a wonderful woman that was closing her store that same week provided us with our future fabulous store manager, who had success and first-hand knowledge in this retail environment.
The dream of a boutique store that provides opportunities to connect with customers in an energetic, joyful environment and create experiences that bring them back time and again was born.
We opened our second location in Prescott May 2018, and again had the perfect location and amazing store manager fall into place in a few weeks’ time.
God has abundantly blessed this journey and provided the most amazing team with the same passion and love Brett and I have. I always strive to leave people and places better than I found them;
My Happy Place Boutique is certainly an extension of that
Q: What is the one thing you are most proud of so far in your life?
A: Our children, Jacob and Maria. They are now in their early 20’s and are wonderful humans who treat others with kindness and respect
Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
A: I want to be a blessing to everyone I meet
I am confident that everyone that has had the privilege of meeting Cherie, or of being in the beautiful spaces she has created at the My Happy Place boutiques - she IS a blessing to everyone she meets and touches.
