How can we get what we want more than 50% of the time? ASK for what you want!
I was raised by my mother to:
1) NOT want anything - or act like I didn't have a preference or any needs
2) ONLY do what others want, don't speak up! THEY are always more important and more correct
3) Hint or insinuate. Do not ask directly
UGH!!!!! For me it has been a lifelong struggle to first identify this dysfunctional communication style, and then change it to something that serves others and myself better! How frustrating it must be to converse with someone that speaks in hints and insinuations, waiting for you to make decisions.
Some of the people I admire most are those that can articulate what they want clearly and confidently.
So my challenge for you and myself today is to Ask for What You Want. Have An Opinion!
At first it can be terrifying because it may mean rejection. However, keep at it, asking politely and directly. You will be amazed at how often you get a positive response. If you get a NO, say "thanks anyway" and move on.
When you ask for what you want you are also giving women within earshot permission to do the same, and the courage to do so = changing the world! You Go Girl!
Remember, if you don't ask, the answer is always NO.
